Obituary of Herman Leo Petty

Herman Petty, 83, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2006 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm today (Tuesday March 7, 2006) at Elmcrest Baptist Church, 517 North Pioneer Drive, with Pastor Chuck Reynolds and Pastor Myong Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Herman was born on December 27, 1922 in Nampa, Idaho to William Luther Petty and Isabell Suzanna (Francis) Petty. On October 24, 1943, Herman married Juana June Goodwin in Dothan, Alabama. Herman entered the United States Army in 1943. After serving his country, Herman began his career as a teacher and a counselor. He was an elementary school counselor for the Abilene Independent School District for over 20 years. Mr. Petty was a member of Elmcrest Baptist Churh. Mr. Petty was preceded in death by both of his parents, two brothers, Francis Petty and Harold Petty and one daughter-in-law, Jan Petty. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, June Petty of Abilene. Herman is survived by his two sons, David Petty and his wife Kathy of Comanche, Doug Petty and his wife Cindy of Platteville, Colorado; three daughters, Ann Petty Amerson and her husband Guy of Kisumu Kenya, Africa, Joan Petty Arnold and her husband Eddie of Waxahachie, and Joy Petty Miller and her husband Dan of Ovalo; twenty grandchildren, Samuel Petty and his wife Mary, Paul Petty and his wife Lilia, Beth Ann Amerson, Nathan Amerson and his wife Elaine, Jason Amerson, Rebecca Hoekstra and her husband Duane, Timothy Arnold and his wife Susan, Andrew, Daniel, Mary Beth, Ruth, Peter, Stephen and Joel Arnold, Luke, Cody, Will and Seth Petty, Jessica and Garrett Miller; and seven great-grandchildren, Ryan Petty, Trenton, Morgan, Eric and Micah Amerson, and Calvin and Patrick Hoekstra. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Amy Petty of Moberly, Missouri and two sisters Nora Loveland of Dallas and Zora Billingsley of Amarillo, Texas.
