A. C. Scarborough, 90, of Abilene, passed away on May 11th in Abilene. Visitation will be 6pm-8pm Wednesday, May 18th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Graveside services will be held at 10am on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery with David Cason officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
A.C. was born in Jena, Louisiana to Basil Ray Scarborough and Ollie Marie Paul Scarborough. He married Velta Naomi Underwood on October 30, 1953, in Abilene, Texas. He was a long-time licensed plumber. He served in the Army from 1950-1953. His hobbies included fishing, picking up pecans, telling stories and spending time with family.
A.C. was preceded in death by his wife, Velta, son Charles, brothers Bruce, Huey, David and Randolph Scarborough, sisters Lucille Tolbert, Evelyn Ballew, Marie Griffin and Anna Fowler. He is survived by daughter Debra Schroeder and husband Steve and son Richard Scarborough and wife Sherry. Daughter-in-law Kathleen Scarborough. Sister, Mamie Fowler-Corder. Grandchildren Brent Schroeder and wife Kelsey, Tyler Schroeder and wife Meghan, Keri Roda & husband Kirk, Kristy Owens & husband Justin, Stacy, Shane, Misty, Brandon, Ashlee, and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family first began in the funeral business in 1933. The Hamil's legacy, beginning with the Elliott's to John and Jo Ann Hamil and now continuing with Robert and Karla Hamil, is to serve families in their time of need.
