Charles was a great friend and devoted attorney for me during a 15 year timeframe. He was honest, loyal, consistent, ethical, kind, understanding, and calm. Charles was also a fun person to discuss historical homes with. I will miss him so much.

Charles was experienced in a number of areas in State and Federal Court, always a worthy and knowledgeable opponent, but, most importantly, a professional colleague who could be trusted to represent his client with integrity and grace. He loved representing clients from all walks of life and he respected the local history and dynamic of the Abilene Bar. It was always a pleasant experience to have a case with Charles and I had many through the years. I will miss his kind manner and smile.

I was a paralegal for Whitten & Young when I first met Charles. Then through my attendance and membership at Heavenly Rest got to know him and Candy better. I'm so sorry for the family's loss and my heart is with them.

Charles was a regular guest each year in my Civics class at Abilene High School. He was good natured and articulate about political issues and fair in his statements to the students. He represented the best traditions of our state.

Charles was the epitome of a true gentleman. Even when we were battling in court as opposing counsel throughout the years, he was gracious and always ready to resolve the issues peacefully. And most important to me was the fact that Charles was honest; his word was his honor. Young lawyers would do well to emulate one such as Charles Scarborough. He was an honor to our profession and will be missed.

Charles introduced me to the Abilene Bar when I arrived in Abilene after graduating from Baylor Law School despite the fact that he was a UT lawyer. We enjoyed a warm professional and personal relationship and commiserated about being two of the few remaining Democrats in town, He had a way of being so gentlemanly and still keeping that twinkle in his eyes. Gary and I add our condolences to all the family and friends he has left behind

We have been neighbors of Charles & Candy for 13 years. From the day we moved in, they were welcoming and displayed their servant hearts. Charles was always quick to come check my pilot light, fuse box or anything else we needed. He was always interested in my children and their lives, and his constant smile will be missed. I will miss him climbing a ladder between our homes to trim the wisteria bush. Nothing brought him down; even in his last days, he was driving and waving to me in the yard. We love your family, and know that Charles is receiving his reward and celebrating with his family that have gone before.

I was so blessed to count Charles as family. Growing up and in need of friendly advice, I could pop into his office or give him a call. He always listened intently and gave a thoughtful response. His door was always open. I couldn't be happier that he got to spend the last 20+ years with you, Candy. He was exceptionally happy. Michael, you, Heather, Hailey and the little grand-girls were a complete joy as well. The last few years I have needed more of Charles' advice than ever and he was always there with a smile and as Stephanie put it, "a twinkle in his eye" no matter his own health issues. You were loved immensely and will be greatly missed. All my love, Julia

I had the privilege of training Charles at my gym for two years while he battled cancer. He came three times a week faithfully. He always walked in with a smile and a twinkle in his eye no matter how he felt. He worked hard at the gym and never complained. He took an interest in my family and my life and I enjoyed visiting with him. He will be greatly missed. I have peace knowing he is fully healed and in paradise now free from pain. Prayers for his family.

Candy and Michael,
Chuck, Caroline and I were so sorry to hear of Charles' passing. We will always remember with great fondness, the hours spent in the tennis court stands with Charles, cheering on the Coogs. We hope you are wrapped up in a cozy blanket of wonderful memories of a beloved husband and granddad. With warm affection, the Statlers.
