Bobby Glen Rains, 84, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
He was born on May 10, 1937 in Blue Ridge, TX to Edgar and Ida Rains.
Bobby started working as a road musician when he was 17 years old, and he created the Rains Steel Guitar with friend and fellow steel player, James Foster. The Rains Steel Guitar is still well respected for excellent quality and sound, and was one of the best selling guitars in the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kodi Hinson, brother John Rains, sisters: Billie Jean Pickard, Nina Hazal, Helen Rains, and Mary Beth Eaker.
Bobby is survived by his wife Juanita Rains; children: Trace Riley, Scott Gates, Kelli Breshers, Todd Rains, Chera Hickerson, Shorty Newberry; brother Larry Rains; sister Tauhlee Chapman, 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
The family first began in the funeral business in 1933. The Hamil's legacy, beginning with the Elliott's to John and Jo Ann Hamil and now continuing with Robert and Karla Hamil, is to serve families in their time of need.
