Obituary of John Randall Wright

John Randall “Randy” Wright, 71, of Abilene, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Time for visiting will be Tuesday, August 31, from 9 am until 10 am at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with funeral services immediately following at 10 am, with Pastor Randy Estes officiating. Burial will be at McBee Cemetery.

Randy was born in Abilene, TX to Roy and Betty Jo Johnson Wright on June 11, 1950. He attended school at Cooper and Wylie. He enlisted in the Army on September 9, 1970. He was stationed in Phu Loi February 1971-1972, and was Crew Chief on UH-1H, and flew with the 165th AVN 1st Aviation Brigade.

Randy married Gail on June 19, 1974 in Abilene, Texas. He was a truck driver for numerous companies and an independent owner/operator.

Randy had several hobbies which included hunting, fishing, racing cars, and spending time camping and boating at the lake with his family. He had a true love for his family and his bride. He was very honored to be a Vietnam Veteran and was proud to serve his country. Later in life when Randy was fighting Agent Orange he developed a love for his two little dogs, Jerry Lee and Jaxon.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Roy L. Wright, his mother, Betty Jo Johnson Wright, his sister, Melinda C. Wright Pritchett, and cousin, Carolyn Payne.

Randy is survived by his spouse, Gail, children: Melissa and spouse, Will Pearson, Brandi and spouse Bill Rowe, grandchildren: Amanda Abernathy, Meagan Wright, Brittaney Abernathy, James Taylor Hicks, William Randall Rowe, and great grandchildren: Noah Marcee and Asher Barnett, and his brother-in-law: James D. Hobbs.

Pallbearers will be Bill Rowe, Will Pearson, Larry Randall Hodges, Ty Hodges, James Hobbs, and Gus Tamporello.
