Obituary of Samuel Harrison Hubbard, Jr.

Samuel Harrison Hubbard, Jr., 79, of Winters, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene surrounded by family.

 

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with the Rev. Bertha Owens, officiating. Inurnment of his cremated remains will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.

 

Samuel H. Hubbard, Jr. was born in Ballinger, Texas to Carrie Johnson and Samuel Hubbard, Sr. on April 16, 1942. He attended and graduated from Ballinger High School and joined the Unites States Air Force right after graduating.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.   He married the love of his life, Laverta Marie Brown, in February of 1965 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a freemason.  He worked 20 years as an Eyewitness news photographer for KARK-TV.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the United States Air Force for 22 years where he retired as an E-6 Tech Sergeant.   

 

Samuel was preceded in death by his wife Laverta Marie Hubbard, parents Carrie Johnson and Samuel Hubbard, Sr., brother Anthony Hubbard, brother Oscar Hubbard, and sister Vivian Hubbard.

 

Samuel is survived by children Cary L. Hubbard and wife Maria of Winters, Daryl L. Hubbard of Winters; siblings Raymond Hubbard and wife Amalia of New York, Carolyn Belk of Winters, Richard Hubbard and wife Betty of Midland, Mitchell Hubbard of Winters, Freda Hubbard of Plainview, Kenneth Hubbard and wife Jemema of San Angelo, Greg Hubbard of San Angelo and grandchildren Hannah Hubbard, Paulina Moreno, Samantha Hubbard, Darius Hubbard, Layla Hubbard and Jaylon Cobbs.

 

Sam was a caring and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. His smile would brighten up any room.  He loved his Dallas Cowboys and was an avid fan.  We will miss our gentle giant, but goodbyes are not forever and are not the end; it simply means, I’ll miss you, until we meet again.

 

The family of Samuel L. Hubbard, Jr. wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Abilene League House and the doctors and nurses at Hendrick Medical Center.
