Obituary of George Harry Cornell, Jr.

George Harry Cornell, Jr., born March 8, 1937 to Olga and George Harry Cornell, Sr. in San Antonio, TX. Passed away July 19, 2020 in Abilene with too many health issues to overcome. Funeral services will be graveside at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene on Monday July 27, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. Services are under the direct of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. George went to school in San Antonio, TX. After joining the Air Force, he was stationed in several countries. He also spent three tours back to back in Vietnam, retiring in 1976 after 20 plus years in service. He worked a few years in refrigeration/air conditioning field. He finished up his working career as a City of Abilene, Parks Dept. employee. Retiring from there. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose organization and The American Legion. He was an avid bowler in his younger days. He loved being outdoors, hunting, camping, being on water in the boat. George was preceded in death by his parents, Olga & George Cornell, Sr. Father & mother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Carl & Bessie Smith. Daughter, Carol Cornell Robinson, granddaughter, Cierra Robinson, brother-in-law, Wylie Carl, sister-in-law, Janice Smith & granddaughter, Alexis A. Baker. George is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Cornell, married in 1987 in Abilene. Sons, Mr. & Mrs. Charles (Elaine)Cornell, Mr. & Mrs. Clifford (Amy) Cornell, Mr. & Mrs. Carl (Laura) Cornell, Mr. & Mrs. Ty (Tracy) Martin, Mr. & Mrs. Jay A. (Susie) Johnson, Mr. & Mrs. Travis Lee (Lou) Johnson & daughter, Cheryl A. Johnson. Sisters, Ann Villar, Lori Justice. Grandkids, Kyle Cornell, Anita Cornell Martinez, Amanda Cornell, Kelsy Cornell, Colton Cornell, Courtney Jenkins, Megan Coston, Jerimiah Johnson, Hollie Johnson, Andrea Puckett, Amanda Perry & Jasmine Sandvik. Lots and lots of great grandkids from our blended family, nieces' nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Special thanks to G. Cedeno M.D. and wonderful caring staff. Encompass Home Health, wonderful thoughtful neighbors to help us through these trouble times. Last but not least, Abilene Regional Hospital and very special nurses on the second floor. Hospital doctors and staff, George loved everyone in our blended family. He is home reunited with loved ones. In lieu of flowers family is asking for donations to meals on wheels.
