Obituary of Mildred Bennett Carter

Mildred Bennett Haws Carter Promoted to Glory "Almighty, God, we entrust all who are dear to us to thy never-failing care and love, for this life and the life to come, knowing that thou art doing for them better things than we can desire or pray for; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." BCP God picked the prettiest flower Saturday, November 25, 2006 in Abilene, Texas. Mildred Carter, Millie to all who knew her, was born March 11, 1919 in North Coventry Township, Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of the late Llewellyn W. and Elsie (Reppert) Haws. Millie married the late Lew L. Carter, Sr. in 1943 and lived in Abilene during WWII returning to Abilene in 1962. She worked for several years managing the coffee shops at Hendrick Hospital, Montgomery Ward and the SUB at McMurry College. Her parents, her husband, Lew Sr. and her brother Ernest Haws preceded Millie in death. She is survived by her sister June Jones of Limerick, Pennsylvania, her son, Lew Carter, Jr., of Abilene, and her three daughters Dr. Gail C. Frank of Los Alamitos, California, Susan Bartlett (Bob) of Abilene and Debbie Saldarriaga of Austin. "Mil Mil" has nine loving grandchildren: Stephen Frank and wife Heidi, Gregory Frank and wife Adrianna; Rebecca, Sarah, Kathryn, Tommy and Christopher Bartlett; and Dustin and Jason Saldarriaga. "Mil Mil" never missed and thoroughly enjoyed every opportunity to see her grandchildren perform. She will be ever present and have the best seat always. Forever in our hearts. Services will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2006 at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, 602 Meander St., Abilene with the Rev. J. Scott Mayer and the Rev. Mary Glover officiating. Internment will be at Elmwood Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2006 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene. The family has asked that those who wish to make a donation be made in her name to the Choir Fund of the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal. Condolences may be sent online to The family wishes to thank the medical and nursing staff of Hendrick Medical Center whose care was superb, and especially Dr. Jack Bargainer, her "best" friend. Millie had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. Her favorite exit line being... "...See you in the funny papers."
