LaVerne was born in Azle, Texas on August 17, 1935. She was the youngest of five children born to Gordon and Allene Reynolds. She attended Azle High School where she enjoyed cheering for the Hornets. She married the love of her life, James A. Boynton in Springtown, Texas, on August 24, 1957. She was his strongest supporter while he coached in several places before settling down in Abilene for 40 years. She worked at Sojourner Drilling for many years before fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a nail technician where she made many close friends and solved all the world's problems. LaVerne loved people, shopping, and mastered the craft of gift giving. If you were fortunate enough to be invited into their home, you would be blessed by her wonderful cooking and leave feeling like the most important person in the world, as she and James waved goodbye all the way down the street. LaVerne was a dedicated mother and took immense pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She and James were active members of St. Paul First United Methodist Church. In 2016, they moved to Waxahachie and became members of Waxahachie First United Methodist Church.
