Shirley Hodgin Sanchez

Shirley Hodgin Sanchez, 71, of Comanche (formerly Abilene) passed away Friday November 5th in Plano, Texas.

 

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

 

Masks will be required for all those in attendance.

 

Shirley was born in Haskell, Texas to Roy and Ruth Hodgin on Ruth's 27th birthday, February 6th, 1950. She graduated from Abilene High School and attended the Patty Hanks School of Nursing at Hardin Simmons University. She shared 24 years of marriage with her best friend Rick Sanchez. Shirley was an all state short stop playing many years for Harris Acoustics under Coach Delbert Ball and earned the nick name “Squirrel” which many still call her. She was also an avid fisherman and golfer, winning several Ladies Club Championships and had multiple hole in one's. Her true passion was shown in the classroom. Kenley, College Heights, Alta Vista, and Comanche Elementary were all blessed with her love of education. Par Village in Comanche held a youth golf clinic and Shirley was right there sharing her skills.

 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruth Hodgin, brother, Jimmy Hodgin, and niece, Dana Hodgin Haas.

 

Left to remember her always are husband Rick Sanchez, son Kris Norman (wife Kristi), daughter Kimberly Norman-Prater (husband James), grandson Ethan Norman, granddaughter Kaitlyn Murphy, and numerous family and friends.

 

The family would like to encourage memorials be made to the Kenley School at 1434 Matador St. here in Abilene.

 

We also invite all those in attendance to bring a note with a special memory of Shirley for the family to keep and be read on the days she is missed the most.
