Zola Mae Corder

1921 — November 29, 2007

Zola Mae (better known as Mickey) Little Sander Corder died Thursday, November 29, 2007, at the age of 86. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, December 3, in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of The Shrines section. Gary Montgomery will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Mickey was born in Mineral Wells, Texas to J.A. and Nola Little on September 20, 1921. She attended schools in Clyde and graduated from Abilene High School in 1939. She took a business course at Gail Business College in Abilene, and worked as a secretary at Camp Barkley in 1940. After Camp Barkley, Mickey worked on other government projects in Hope, Arkansas, McGregor, Texas, Provo, Utah, Los Angeles, California and Daingerfield, Texas. She married Rufus Sanders in Dallas in 1946. The couple moved to Magnolia, Arkansas in 1951 and to Abilene in 1959, where they operated Sanders Toy Fair until 1965. She was secretary to Bill Tindell, District Manager of Mayfair Minerals, Inc., from 1965 until she retired in 2005. Mickey was a past president and longtime member of Abilene Desk and Derrick Club, and a member of Baker Heights Church of Christ. Rufus Sanders died in 1976 and she married Gordon Corder in 1991. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Margaret Walker and Peggy Corder. She is survived by her husband and two sisters, Joe Ann Clemmer and Dorothy Tedford and her husband Lynn, of Abilene. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Geri Craver of Austin; one niece, Nancy Hall and her husband Marvin of Jayton; five nephews, Bob Walker of Marion, John Walker and his wife Patricia, of Arlington, Robert Clemmer and his wife Yvonne, of McGregor, Lewis Clemmer, of Abilene, Steve Tedford and his wife Marty, also of Abilene. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Sears Methodist Nursing Center and Sears Hospice Care. The family suggests memorial donations be sent to these two organizations or to the donor's favorite charity.
