Zola M. "Tommie" Cobb, age 87, of Abilene died Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Hendrick Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Hillcrest Church of Christ with Kevan O'Banion officiating. The burial will be at Elliot Hamil Garden of Memories immediately afterwards. Visitation will be 7:00 – 9:00 PM on Friday, December 22, 2006 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Tommie was born on March 1, 1919 in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma to William Oscar and Stella M. Thomas. She graduated from Memphis High School and West Texas State Teacher's College. She married Edgar R. Cobb Jr. on June 6, 1948 in Velasco, Texas. She taught all elementary grades in a 30-year career that included schools in Velasco, Bryan, and Texas City. After retiring, she was a long time resident of Crockett and Abilene. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Wylie Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years – Eddie Cobb, her parents, and three sisters – Letha, Emma, and Jean. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Adria and Bernie Kastner of Abilene, Texas and her son and daughter-in-law Darrell and Sally Cobb of Houston, Texas. She is survived by two sisters – Wrenva Potts of Austin, and Billie Daniel of Flippin, Arkansas; four grandchildren – Cory, David, Kendra, and Kristen, and one great grandchild – Sladen (age 9 days), and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express appreciation to Vida Redell and her family for their thoughtfulness and willingness to go so far beyond the call of duty. We would also like to express our appreciation to the Hendrick Medical Center; especially the 3rd and 6th floors and the Hospice Unit for their excellent and compassionate care for Tommie and for her family.
