Wilma P. Gilbreth, 85, died Sunday, January 14, 2007 in a local nursing home. A graveside service, with Reverend Thurel Reid and Reverend Barry Glover officiating, will be in the Potosi Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2007 under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. There will be a visitation at the Funeral Home from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17.
Wilma was born December 25, 1921 in Rochester, Texas to Leonard and Alma Lee Durst Reid. She attended school in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School. She married Milton Gilbreth in Stamford and the couple moved to Abilene in 1938, where Wilma worked at Sears for 39 years before retiring. A lady who cared about others, Wilma volunteered at Hendrick Medical Center as a Pink Lady, and faithfully made afgans for The West Texas Rehabilitation Center telethon. She was a member of St Paul United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Gilbreth was preceded in death by her husband in 1988, a grandson, Jeff Gilbreth, who died June 6, 1987, a sister, Onama Allen and three brothers, J.L. Reid, Bud Reid and Manford Reid.
Survivors include: her son, Jerry Gilbreth and wife Mary of Abilene; a brother, Reverend Thurel Reid of Haskell, Texas, a sister, "Tootsie" Roberts of Houston and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill Combs, Richard Vidaurri, Mickey Gilbreth, Donnie Martin, Gene Blake and Ronnie Westfall will serve as honorary pallbearers.
