Bert Swarts went to be with our Lord & Savior on Dec. 11, 2006, surrounded with the love and kindness he had shown to others.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday the 14th at the Hamil Family Funeral home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm on Friday at Grace Tabernacle with Pastor James King officiating. There will be a graveside service on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, Texas.
Bert was born in Glendale, California on Dec 10, 1939 to Willis Carl Swarts & Kathryn Puglsey. He served in the United States Air Force, guarding the U-2's, during the Cuban Missle crisis. He moved to Abilene in 1969 from Del Rio, Texas. He was a retired life insurance agent & avid fisherman who loved the outdoors & explored several rivers & lakes throughout Texas. Bert was devoted to his wife, sons & grandchildren. He was a member of Grace Tabernacle Church in Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his father and then by his first wife Kathleen Virginia Swarts.
He is survived by his wife Hermaleen of Abilene, his mother Kathryn Pugsley of Huntington Beach, California, two sons Willis Bert "Sonny" Swarts, Jr. and his wife Donna of Boise, Idaho and Joseph Lawrence Swarts of The Woodlands, Texas. He loved as a son, Shawn LaFountain of The Woodlands; two grandchildren Shannon MacKenzie Swarts and Ryan Alexander Swarts of Boise, Idaho; his sister Shari Hall of Laguna Niguel, California; a stepson Preston Widdows of Abilene; three step-daughters, Kalah Flores of Del Rio, Texas, Neva Thomas of Denton, Texas and Vonda Adamson of Sterling, Oklahoma."
