William Doyle Marshall

1929 — July 18, 2010

William Doyle Marshall, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, July 18, 2010, after a brief illness. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. H. B. Terry and Rev. Price Mathieson officiating. Burial will follow in McBee Cemetery in South Taylor County. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Doyle was born on March 13, 1929, to R. J. and Lottie Landers Marshall on their family farm near Ovalo, Texas. He met and married his Ovalo High School sweetheart, Lota Clyde Johnson Marshall in Abilene on November 23, 1946. They farmed in Ovalo and later moved to Abilene in 1947. He is survived by his wife, Lota Clyde, daughter, Cindy Jeter, and sons, Bob Marshall and wife Donna, and Jerry Marshall, all of Abilene, John Marshall and wife, Mellie of El Paso, Don Marshall and wife, Diana, of Houston, and Randy Marshall and wife, Karen of Austin, sisters and brothers-in-law, Ginger and Melvin Faircloth and Bob and Frances Johnson, and brother-in-law, Roy Peoples, 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, R.J. and Lottie Marshall, two brothers, Weldon and Alton Marshall, three sisters, Lavelle Moore, Dorothy Little, and Patsy Peoples, and one son, Billy Marshall. Doyle worked for 15 years for Chapman Lumber Company and was the varsity athletic bus driver for the Abilene school system for many years. Later in life, he and Lota drove for Avalon Mortuary Service. During the mid-sixties, Doyle coached the Abilene Eagles summer baseball team for Coach Blackie Blackburn. Doyle's family would like to thank the emergency room and intensive care doctors and staff at Hendrick Medical Center for their attentive care.
