W. H. “Bill” Kidwell, 91, died Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at an Abilene nursing home.
Born in Abilene, Texas on August 26, 1924, Bill was the son of Katie (Hines) and Ollie Kidwell. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Anna Marie Rice in 1948. Early in the 1980’s, Bill retired from the Abilene Fire Department after a 30 plus years career as a fire fighter. For several years he was a part-time bus driver for Sunset Stages. Bill and his wife were active in the Eager Beaver Chapter of Good Sam Club, and a member of South Side Baptist Church in Abilene.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie Kidwell, on October 24, 2006; two sons, Kenton Kidwell in 2004, and Karl Kidwell at childbirth; his parents; and two brothers, Paul Kidwell and Byron Kidwell.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Tom Kidwell, Peggy Jones and Glenn, and Lee Kidwell and Traci; six great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joyce Kidwell; and one niece, Karen Dusek.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, in Elmwood Memorial Park with Greg O. Rake officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Visitation will be 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 3, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Bill’s honor to the donor’s favorite charity of choice.
