William Jay

William “Billy Fred” Jay, 84, of Abilene died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at a local medical center. Born in Gorman, Texas, on September 28, 1930, William was the son of the late T.L Dick Jay and Vera A. CuBell (Pittman) Jay. He received his bachelor degree from Howard-Payne University in Brownwood. William had been the credit manager at Montgomery Wards and installed the early ATM’s in Abilene. He married Donna Irene Jay on May 4, 1956 in Fort Worth, Texas. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2011. William is survived by his son, William Kelly Jay and wife Christi of Abilene; daughter, Phala Jay of Abilene; four grandchildren, Jacky Jay, Lauren Jay and Kasey Jay all of Abilene, and Tana Allmand and husband Robert of Merkel; six great-grandchildren, Jordan Allmand, Colten Allmand, Brennan Allmand, Truett Fowler, Linkan Jay and Dorothy Fowler; and many nieces and nephews by choice. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene with Pastor Mark Hewitt officiating. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20, in Gorman Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
