Dr. William Neil Dixon, DDS, 79, died Tuesday June 6, 2006 in Abilene. A memorial service, with Reverend Stan Allcorn officiating, will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday in Pioneer Drive Baptist Church under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Dr. Dixon was born April 17, 1927 in Amarillo, Texas to Kenneth David and Frankie Mae Paxton Dixon. He attended schools in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy where he was accepted into The Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, later transferring to The University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of The Silver Spurs and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. While attending The University of Texas, he married Imogene Barton on April 8, 1950. After graduating, he attended and graduated from Baylor Dental School. Dr. and Mrs. Dixon moved to Dallas where he was in private practice for over 40 years before the couple moved to Abilene in 1994. Dr. Dixon was active in Rotary Club and Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Imogene Dixon of Abilene; 5 sons, Kenneth David of Dallas, William Neil, Jr. of Pflugerville, Thomas Barton and Dr. Joseph Andrew both of Abilene, and Matt Rowland of Dallas; 7grandsons and 2 granddaughters, and 3 great-granddaughters.
