William “Bill” A. McKinnon, 80, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021. He was born on March 12, 1941, in Abilene to Joe and Maurine McKinnon.
Time for visiting with the family will be from 9 am until 11 am on Wednesday, June 23, with funeral services following at 11 am at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Services will conclude at the funeral home, with a private burial later.
Bill graduated from Abilene High, then attended McMurry for his undergraduate. He went on to graduate from Hardin Simmons University with his master’s degree. He loved working with children as a teacher and counselor for 13 years at College Heights Elementary School in Abilene, and 22 years at O.L. Slaton Junior High School in Lubbock, for a total of 35 years. Bill adored his grandchildren and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Maurine McKinnon; brother, Don McKinnon; and brother, John McKinnon and his wife Pat.
Bill is survived by his son, Kyle McKinnon and wife Brandi; daughter, Melissa Beyer and husband Randy; the mother of his children and dear friend, Billie McKinnon; 10 grandchildren: Blaine Beyer, Emilee Hammond and spouse Coleman Hammond, Kyleigh Beyer, Maddison McKinnon, Mallory McKinnon, William “Drake” McKinnon, and Dagan McKinnon. He was blessed with three great-grands-in-love.
