A long-time and faithful member of Hawley's First Baptist Church, she taught the same women's adult Sunday school class for more than 27 years. The women of her class were her extended family and she always said that they brought her much joy and encouragement.
Willadean was raised in the Pleasant Valley community in Fisher County and married Charles D. Hicks on June 28, 1942. C.D. was the love of her life and they had almost 59 years together before he was killed in a tractor accident in 2001. She had resided in Hawley since 1966.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and four sisters. She is survived by two sons, Charley Hicks and wife Allana of Stamford and Michael Hicks and wife Bobi of Anson; daughter, Sherry Ferguson and husband Jack of Abilene; ten grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Also among the survivors is the family of C.D. of which she considered herself a part.
A most gracious person, Willadean could always find the good in others and was reluctant to find fault. She spent most of her years supporting her husband and children in all of their good times as well as bad. She was a terrific baker and any guests in her home could find a delicious pie, cake or cookies.
Grandsons and Grandsons-in-law will be pallbearers and the family requests that any donations be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605; or Hawley First Baptist Church, 350 5th St. Hawley, TX 79525.
