Wiley Wise

June 12, 1937 — March 4, 2023

Wiley Mitchell Wise (85) was born June12, 1937 in Big Spring, Texas.  He went to see the Lord peacefully as he rested at home on March 4, 2023. 

Family visitation will be at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6-8 pm, Tuesday, March 7.  Funeral service will be held, 1:30pm, Wednesday, March 8 with Jeff Hatcher of Wylie Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Wiley was the son of Manuel Odis Wise & Dorothy Rainey Wise.  He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1955, where he played football and golf. He attended McMurry College where he played football and was a member of IHR, social club.  While at McMurry, he was a two time All Texas College Selection, All Lone Star Conference at tight end, defensive end, punter and kicker.  Wiley was member of the Lone Star Conference Championship team in 1955, 1957, and 1958.  He was inducted into both the Big Spring Athletic Hall of Fame and McMurry University Hall of Fame. 

Wiley married Martha Tinkle on December 27, 1958.  His teaching and coaching career began in Los Fresnos, Texas. He later moved back to Abilene and coached at Mann Junior High and Abilene High School.  He became the Head Coach of Central Catholic High School and led them to the basketball 2A State Championship.  For a short time he worked for Employers of Texas as a successful insurance salesman. Wiley returned to his coaching career at Madison Jr. High and Cooper High School for several years. He finished his coaching career at Wylie Jr. High in Abilene.   While still coaching, he founded Texas Courts & Windscreens.  Upon retirement, he continued in the tennis court business and raised quarter horses.

Wiley was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Wise (brother), & Syble Wise (sister).

Wiley was very proud of his family.  He is survived by his wife Martha Tinkle Wise of 64 years.  Jeff Wise (son) and wife, Annette.  Jay Wise (son), and wife Rhonda.  Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren - Lane & Joni Wise, Scottie, Sloane & Molly. Alanna & Beau McNeill, Maryn, & Lainey.  Tyler & Grace Wise (baby daughter due in August).  Madison Wise.  Brother – Dan & Mardelle Wise.  Sister – Lavern Myers/Jannamon. Many loved nieces and nephews.

Wiley & Martha are longtime active members of Wylie Methodist Church and the Outreach Class.

Pallbearers: Lane Wise, Tyler Wise, Beau McNeill, Brand Jones, Dave Collins, Billy Jacob.
