Weldon Beasley, 79, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 11, 2013 at 2:00pm at Trent United Methodist Church with Reverend Rex Mauldin and Reverend Glenda West officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Burial will follow in Trent Cemetery in Trent, Texas. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Weldon Beasley was born December 5, 1933 in Trent, Texas to James Malcolm and Ola Ashford Beasley. He graduated from Trent High School in 1952. He married his high school sweetheart, Sylvia Taylor on September 10, 1954 and they recently celebrated their 59th anniversary. Weldon joined the Trent Methodist Church in 1947 where the Beasley family has held continuous membership since 1913. He retired as General Manager of Taylor Telephone Cooperative in 1997 after 37 years of employment.
Weldon played football, basketball and ran track at Trent High School and was a lifelong supporter of all Trent Gorilla athletics. He served on the Trent School Board for 18 years including several terms as board president. Weldon also served on Trent City Council, the Trent Cemetery Association Board, and various boards and committees at the Trent United Methodist Church. He was on the sidelines for every athletic event for his children and after retiring he made many trips to Dallas to be on the sidelines or at the horse stable to support his grandchildren. He loved to hunt and fish and in recent years enjoyed having lunch with his friends and other activities at the Rose Park Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Taylor Beasley of Trent, his daughter Cindy Carradine of Dallas, his son Greg Beasley and wife Alex of Dallas, grandchildren Malcolm Carradine and Andie Beasley of Dallas, sister-in-law Lonelle Teaff of Merkel, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Helga Beasley Tiner and husband Lewis; Marjorie Beasley Boyd and husband Jack and brothers J. M. Jr, Maitlin, and Andy.
