Wayne Pearson Thompson
Wayne Pearson Thompson, 76, passed away January 3, 2006 in Abilene. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Wylie Baptist Church, with Rev. Rick Grant officiating, assisted by Rev. Roland Williams. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will be in the Potosi Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson was born May 21, 1929 in Troy, Texas to L.B. and Lois Gibson Thompson. He married Joyce Manske in 1951 in Ballinger, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. In 1957 he went to work for the F.F.A. as an electronic technician installing communication equipment at airports in eleven southern states. In 1982 he went to work at Abilene Municipal Airport as an electronic technician maintaining instrument landing systems. He retired in 1989. Mr. Thompson owned and operated Thompson's Trolling Motor Repair. He was a member of Wylie Baptist Church, Abilene Model A Club and Big Country Ford V-8 Club.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Barton and Vernon Thompson, both of Temple, Texas; and a sister, Evelyn Thompson Martin, of Troy, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Manske Thompson; a daughter, Melanie Thompson of Austin; two sons, Kevin Thompson of Abilene and Neal Thompson of California City, California; four grandchildren, Erik and Katelyn Thompson of California City, California, and Blaine and Kyle Thompson of Abilene; two brothers, Dale Thompson and his wife Leni, of San Angelo, and J.Q. Thompson and his wife Peggy of Temple, Texas; one sister Vivian Allen and her husband James, of Brownwood, and several nieces and nephews.
