Waymon Carroll Tyson

Waymon Carroll, "Red," Tyson, beloved husband of Susie, joined his loved ones in heaven on September 28, 2008 at a local hospital. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Lytle South Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Waymon was born August 30, 1940 to Tommy Henry and Ellis Madelin Tyson in Hanceville, Alabama. He graduated from Hanceville High School, Hanceville, Alabama in 1958. Following graduation, Waymon enrolled in St. Bernard College, and completed two semesters. During that time, he was working for Cullman Products, and Tom Gilley, often working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, and attended school from 7:30 until 11:30. Waymon enlisted into the United States Air Force, in January of 1960, to see the world. He spent 4 years and 5 months of service time in Texas. He went TDY to Loan France for 4 months and received an honorable discharge on October, 26, 1964. He started the training academy for the Abilene Fire Department, two weeks before his discharge from the Air Force. Waymon spent 18 years on the Abilene Fire Department, including 5 years in the Fire Marshall's office. He was a Texas Certified Arson Investigator, a Texas Certified Fire Inspector, and a Texas Certified Firefighter. Most of the time, while on shift, he was also the firehouse cook. Waymon had to retire from the Abilene Fire Department in May of 1983, due to medical problems. Waymon married to Vickie Sue, "Susie" Haskew, in June of 1967. They have been married 41 years, and are still best friends. They started raising and showing Appaloosa horses, after they were married, and along with Susie's parents, had several Texas, World, and National champions. Waymon and Susie sold their horses in 1987. He went to work as a parts clerk for Big Country Dodge, in 1985, and worked there for a year. He then worked as a Mall of Abilene security guard, until 1988, and then went to work at the Chrysler dealership in Abilene, as a parts clerk, and later, parts manager. Waymon worked there until 1993, when he became ill. Waymon was preceded in death by, parents, and brother, Donald Tyson. Waymon is survived by two sons, Tommie Norman and Todd Newman Tyson; two grandchildren, Timmy Tyson, and Destanie Poindexter; three sisters, Peggy Cooke, and husband, Pete, Patricia Roberts and husband, Ronnie, and Sandy Watwood, and husband Mike. He was also honorary granddad to Dana, Matt and Kyle Johnson and all of the students at Team Chip Taekwondo.
