Wanda was born to Otis and Maggie (Durham) Ferguson in the Spade Community near Littlefield, Texas on September 6, 1932. She professed her faith and love for Christ at an early age. She was a member of Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene. Wanda was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother.
Wanda was best known for her love for her family. She grew up with seven brothers and sisters and was a nurturer to them all. She often provided caregiving to anyone in need. For many years prior to her own declining health, she would visit loved ones who were ill, providing great care and concern. She was burdened for the sick and hurting.
Wanda was a Proverbs: 31 woman. Her worth was far above rubies. She worked hard much of her life to provide for her family. She and her husband Ray owned and operated the Color Vision Rent- to-Own business until their retirement. She girded herself with strength, and her strength shined brightly as she battled many health problems and life challenges in recent years. Strength and Honor were her clothing. Her children called her blessed, her husband praised her. She was charming and beautiful, yet she knew what lasted was a love for The Lord, and she praised Him all the days of her life.
Wanda was the Matriarch of the family. The family jokingly called her the “Queen Bee”.
She loved to shop and could always come up with just the “perfect” gift for those she shopped for, and could often find a little something for herself on her shopping adventures. She had an eye for decorating and enjoyed refreshing her home with her decorating skills.
She was fondly known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as “Nonnie”. She loved to spoil them. She understood the term “spoiled” in a very positive way and perhaps was a bit spoiled herself by the family.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Roy C. Eddins in 1977, two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her husband Ray Peel; one son Dale Eddins of Cross Plains; two daughters Karen Roberts and her husband Terry of Abilene, and Teressa Francisco and her husband Jim of Corinth, TX; one sister Pat Vallas of California; two sisters-in-law Bonnie Lovelace of Austin and Sara Peel of Eastland; three stepsons Mike Peel and wife Linda, Wayne Peel and wife Toni, and Daryl Peel; and two stepdaughters Lesa Hertel and husband Steve, and Gena Muehlstein; 18 grandchildren: Courtney Tally, Cory Tally, Kendra Carter, Lacey Moore, Callie Fehr, Paige Kirk, Brittany Lewis, Jared Peel, Jeff Peel, Kevin Peel, Mikelle Furman, Justin Hertel, Riley Hertel, Sydney Muehlstein, Abby Muehlstein, Bailey Muehlstein, Brennan Peel, and Brad Peel; 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nephews and nieces.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Wanda Peel to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1982 Hickory Street, Abilene, TX 79601.
The family expresses a special “thank you” to her caregivers, Irma Villanueva and Joann Bernal.
