Wanda Montgomery, 81, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at her home with her two daughters by her side into the loving arms of her Lord and her husband.
Wanda Blankenship was born July 26, 1927, as the only child of LoRena and J.D. Blankenship. She was reared and attended school in Denton Valley, where she played basketball and graduated as valedictorian of her senior class. Wanda married W.N. (Newt) Montgomery in 1961. They made their home in Abilene, where they reared two daughters. Ms. Montgomery was a homemaker who enjoyed drives in the country to hunt rocks with her children; picnics at Abilene State Park to feed the deer; vacations at the beach, particularly South Padre Island; and spending time with her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was an entertaining story teller. She was a Baptist.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
She is survived by her two daughters, Beverley Coulter of Abilene, and Pam Perkins and husband, John, of Abilene; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 15th, in Elmwood Memorial Park with The Reverend Rosemary P. Thomas officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
