Wanda Lou McKeever

Wanda Lou McKeever, 79, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 3, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 4, 2005 at 2:00 pm at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, with Dr. Jeff Reid and Rev. Kent McKeever officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Wanda was born January 31, 1926 to parents Sam O. Hill and Bessie Slough Hill in Lamesa, Texas. Before moving to Abilene in 1941, Wanda attended school in Cross Plains, Clyde and in Hamilton. She was a graduate of Abilene High School and attended Hardin Simmons University. She was a member of the band in high school and in college. She married Jim McKeever on October 19, 1947 in Abilene. Wanda owned and operated McKeever Cleaners from 1965 to 1980. She was a member of Hendrick's Auxiliary "Pink Ladies" for 18 years. Wanda was a very active member of her church. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was currently a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of the choir both at Southside and Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. She was also the leader of the Girls Auxiliary, member of the Woman's Missionary Union, and director of both youth and adult Sunday School Departments. Wanda was preceded in death by both of her parents. She is survived by her husband Jim McKeever of Abilene, two sons and their wives, Russell and Susan McKeever of Abilene, Greg and Darlene McKeever of Houston, her daughter, Donna McKeever of Abilene, two brothers, Forest Hill of Longview and John Hill of Dallas; one sister, Marie Merrell of San Diego, California; two grandsons, Rev. Kent McKeever and his wife Emily of Jackson, Mississippi, Zachary Taylor of Austin; one granddaughter Claire McKeever of Austin; one great-granddaughter Zoe Elizabeth McKeever, and several nieces and nephews.
