Wanda Joy McIver

Wanda Joy McIver, 78 of Abilene, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 14 at Wylie Baptist Church, with Rev. Donny Harbers officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 pm at the Rockwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Wanda was born in Santa Anna, Texas to J.P. and Faye Hodges on November 28, 1934. She went to school at Rockwood and Santa Anna. Wanda married Royce McIver on February 18, 1954 at the minister’s home in Talpa, Texas. She was a homemaker and the mother of Sabrina and Britton. She taught preschoolers and young children in Sunday School and was a good example for all to see. She and Royce were two of the 28 charter members for the Kingsland Baptist Church in Houston, where many people were saved, and the church has grown to thousands in membership today. Wanda is survived by her husband Royce McIver of Abilene; her daughter, Sabrina McIver-Smith and husband Artie of Rockwood; her son, Britton McIver and wife Meredith of Buffalo Gap; one brother, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Bryan Smith, Kyle Smith, Phillip Smith, Daniel Smith, Jason McIver and Joshua McIver. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the fellow members at Wylie Baptist Church, the Abilene South Dialysis Center and their many friends.
