Wanda C. Lunn died October 11, 2015, at the age of 84 at her home. She was born April 4, 1931, near Avoca, Texas, to Bennie and Lottie Fay Cox. She grew up in Jones County and graduated as Valedictorian from Leuders High School in 1948 where she received a scholarship to Draughon’s Business School in Abilene. A goal of Wanda’s was to attain a college degree, which she accomplished at the age of 50. She completed her BA in Communications at McMurry College. She held various positions in the business world until her retirement. She enjoyed mentoring others and encouraged goal setting, hard work and education. Wanda was an avid reader and appreciated theater, film, dance and music. She acted in plays at the Abilene Community Theater and always had a passion for writing and was involved in various writing and book clubs. She has published articles for The Abilene Reporter News, Texas Coop Magazine and wrote a monthly column in the Buffalo Gap News for many years. She also enjoyed traveling, politics, history, good conversation and lots of laughter. Wanda grew up attending the Church of Christ and was a current member of Baker Heights Church of Christ. She married Earl Lunn in 1951 and they had one daughter, Melody. Wanda is survived by her daughter, Melody and son-in-law Jim Snow, of Austin, Texas; granddaughters, Danielle of Chicago, Illinois; Kirsten of Austin, Texas and Heather of College Station, Texas; as well as other nieces and nephews and many close friends. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm. The service will be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home in Abilene at 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the lounge and lobby at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Wanda was intelligent, fun loving and a wise lady. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Anton Melnyk of Texas Oncology and her nurses, Lisa and Jennifer of Hendrick Hospice Care for their family support and loving care.
