Wanda Fain Hughes, 83, of Abilene passed away, Friday, December 10, 2010 in a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010 at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Dr. Jesse Fletcher, Dr. Eduardo Rivera and Rev. Pam Rowley will officiate. A reception will follow in the Wesley Friendship Hall at the church. Graveside services will be private. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
July 6, 1927, Wanda was born to Frank Fain and Clara (Kendall) Fain in Abilene, Texas. She graduated from Abilene High School and McMurry University. Wanda married Fred Lee Hughes in Abilene on June 25, 1949.
She loved her Lord and her family. Mrs. Hughes had a strong faith and trust in God and his Holy Word. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hughes was a strong supporter of the community of Abilene, where she had lived her entire life. She was also a supporter of Dyess Air Force Base. She enjoyed playing Bridge and tennis. Mrs. Hughes had a special group of High School friends named "The girls of '44" she enjoyed spending time with.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dr. Allen Maurice Fain. Wanda is survived by her husband, Fred Lee Hughes of Abilene; two sons, Dr. Kenneth Allen Hughes of Las Vegas, Nevada, Michael Craft Hughes and his wife Lynda Jackson Hughes of Ft. Worth; three grandchildren, William Craft Hughes and wife Joanna, Lee Michael Hughes and Clark Jackson Hughes; two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Mackenzie Hughes; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
