Wanda Joyce Choate, 76, of Abilene, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. David Cason will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park in the Garden of Faith. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Joyce was born in Lamesa, Texas on August 27, 1932 to Ernest McCaffety and Edna Mae (Stanford) McCaffety. She moved to Abilene in 1950 from Goldsboro, Texas. Joyce married R.B. Choate on September 28, 1973 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was a member of Broadview Baptist Church.
Preceding Joyce in death were her parents and two brothers, Royce and Jimmy McCaffety. She is survived by her husband, R.B. Choate, of Abilene; two sons, Garry and Tony Smith, both of Abilene; one daughter, Donna Andress and her husband Jim, of McKinney, Texas; one step-daughter, Sandra Fowler and her husband Cliff, of Abilene; two step-sons, Gary Don Choate and his wife Karen, of Jacksboro, Texas and Bob Choate and his wife Nori, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Joyce is also survived by her sister, Patsy Page and her husband Floyd, of Merkel, Texas; six grandchildren, Kara Choate Crombie, Dawn Choate, Lindsey Fowler, Britany, Cassie and Hailey Smith; one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Crombie, as well as two nieces.
Jim Newton, Mike Garrett, Kenneth Glover, Rick McCarty, Greg Ververs and Jim Welch will serve as pallbearers.
