Wanda Brown, 69, of Abilene, formerly of Winters, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Friday at Broadview Baptist Church, with Rev. David Cason and Rev.Don Pattillo officiating. Burial will be in the Crews Cemetery.
Wanda was born on May 15, 1936, to Alfred and Claudie Russell. She was a victim of polio at the age of 14 months. She overcame her handicap and learned to walk on crutches and drive a car. She graduated from Winters High School in 1954 and attended Business College in Abilene. She worked as a secretary for the District Attorney in Abilene for 9 years and a year in San Antonio. She also worked for TETCO in Abilene for a year.
Wanda was an officer and active member of People Against Child Abuse for many years. She was a long-time member of Broadview Baptist Church and served the Lord as children's Sunday school teacher, taught Vacation Bible School, was outreach leader and sang in the choir. Wanda loved to sew, knit, crochet, do arts and crafts, and was an artist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Juanita Hill and a brother, Winford Reel. She is survived by her husband, Robert, a step-son James Brown; a step-daughter Astasia and her husband Brad Rebhan of Dallas; a sister Lavanda and her husband Rick Dobbins of Abilene; three grandchildren, five nephews, one niece, three great-nephews and two great-nieces.
