Walter Earl "Wally" Walston, 75, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at home, just a few feet from where his loving wife and soul mate had lost her battle with cancer less than 30 hours prior. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Lytle South Baptist Church. Rev. Rodney Watson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. His body will be cremated after services. Wally was born October 22, 1936 in Bakersfield, California to Monty Jay and Mary Jane (Campbell) Walston. He graduated from Arvin High School in Arvin, CA. and attended Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, CA. He worked in the oilfield, mostly offshore for many years until he went to work for Abilene Color and Supply, where he became the Manager and worked there for over 25 years. Wally was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and the Abilene Memory Men Chorus here in Abilene. He was a member of Lytle South Baptist Church. On Oct 31st, 1987, he met his soul mate and the love of his life, Holly Anna. They were married on May 28, 1988 in Abilene. They shared a very special and unique love. In 24 years of marriage they enjoyed many activities but as long as they were together they could have fun doing just about anything! Wally loved all his children and grandchildren with all his heart. Wally was a funny, gentle, loving and very caring man and will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. Wally was preceded in death by his wife, Holly, one day prior to his passing. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Kirt and Michael Walston and two brothers, Joe and Freddie Walston. He is survived by two sons, Travis Walston and wife Robin of San Antonio and Taylor Walston and wife Lorraine of Murfreesboro, TN; one daughter, Dena Sommers and husband Jay of Cambria, CA; one step-son, Michael Cloud and girlfriend Amy Ogle of Abilene; two step-daughters, Joy Cloud-Lee and husband James Lee also of Abilene, and Robben Morin and husband Steve of Salem, OR; one brother, Jim Walston of Vista, CA; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
