Walter Pruitt, age 78, of Abilene, died Thursday, August 4, 2005 at Hendrick Medical Center after an extended illness. Visitation will be Sunday, August 7th from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 8, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Church of Christ with Terry Brown officiating and assisted by Malcolm Coco and Roger Gee. Burial will be Monday afternoon, August 8th at 4 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, Texas with Ronnie White officiating, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Walter Pruitt was born June 11, 1927 in Hillsboro, Texas to parents Byron and Annie Belle Pruitt. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and then attended the University of Texas where he graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He received his CPA certification in 1956. Mr. Pruitt was a financial officer and CPA for land, cattle and energy companies in Midland, Amarillo, and Phoenix before retiring in Lubbock and then moving to Abilene in 1999. He was in the U.S. Navy and a veteran of World War II. While residing in Midland, Mr. Pruitt was a charter member and deacon of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ. He also served as a deacon of the Central Church of Christ in Amarillo. Mr. Pruitt was currently a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ in Abilene. Walter was preceded in death by his parents Byron and Annie Belle Pruitt and his wife of 48 years, Mary Allen Pruitt. He is survived by his wife Donice Pruitt of Abilene, one son, Allen Pruitt and his wife Celeste of Midland; one daughter, Celeste Thompson and husband Mark of Lubbock, one sister, Barbara Link and husband Al of Pueblo, Colorado; three grandchildren, Melani and Morgan Pruitt and Claire Thompson. Memorials may be made in honor of Mr. Pruitt to Meals on Wheels, 717 North 10th Street, Abilene, TX 79601, and Christian Homes of Abilene, 1202 Estates Drive, Abilene, TX 79602.
