Wallace Gene McNeil, 78, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Lamesa, Texas on August 8, 1932, he was the son of Willie Lee (Faulkenberry) and Iral Canada McNeil. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Tech University and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service as a field auditor. He moved from Garland, Texas to Abilene in 1996.
Wallace married Velva Ineta Flud on October 25, 1952 in Lamesa, Texas. He was a member of Hope Chapel Foursquare Church in Abilene.
His parents; one brother, Iral McNeil; and a grandchild, Talmadge Hinson, preceded him in death.
Mr. McNeil is survived by his wife, Velva McNeil of Buffalo Gap, Texas; daughters and their husbands, Vanna Jan Hinson and James David of Abilene, Quenna Jo Daniels and Brett of Eastland; and Laneta Jean Cool and Lee of Idalou, Texas; nine grandchildren, Hannah Jenkins, Travis Hinson, Rachel Dewey, Wallace Cooper, Mercy Daniels, Josh Daniels, Michael Cool, Leah Cox, and Aimee Cool; and three great-grandchildren, Andy Dewey, Abigail Hinson and Tell Cox. Survivors also include a brother, Brian Douglas McNeil of Garland; sister, Jeanette Greenhill of Wylie, Texas; a half-brother, Terry McNeil; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 12, at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Chapel Foursquare Church, 3502 Rebecca Lane, with Rev. J. D. Hinson, Rev. Lee Cool, Brett Daniels and Rev. Scott Hassett officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The graveside service with military honors will follow in Buffalo Gap Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Travis Hinson, Wallace Cooper, Michael Cool, Josh Daniels, Alvie Faulkenberry and Michael Flud.
