Wade Roberts passed away on Wednesday, August 27 in Abilene, Texas at the age of 83 after a long battle with Alzheimers.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 30, at Moran Cemetery on FM 2408 with Rev. Robert Stone officiating. Visitation will be Friday, August 29, from 5-7 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd, Abilene, TX 79606 (325) 692-2232.
Wade was born May 2, 1931 in Moran, Texas to Gladys Elliott Roberts and Herschel Roberts. He graduated from Moran High School in 1948. After high school he became a member of the class of 1952 at Texas A&M University where he was in the E-Field Artillery unit of the Corps of Cadets, a member of the Saddle and Sirloin Club and graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry. Wade served in the United States Army as part of the peace-keeping forces in Korea in 1953.
Wade married Joy Ann Wood of Lawton, Oklahoma on February 7, 1953. After returning from military service, he returned to Texas where he worked for ACCO Feeds, retiring from the ACCO Oil Mill in 1980. After retirement from ACCO, he returned to Moran, Texas where he raised Hereford and Black Angus cattle for thirty years. Wade was a member of the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and served as a board member for the North Central Texas Federal Land Bank.
For all of his life, Wade was known as an honest, hard-working man who would do anything for his family. He loved the land and he loved his family and friends. He enjoyed making people laugh with a good joke and valued honesty and loyalty above all else.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Reagan and his parents. Wade is survived by his wife, Joy Roberts; daughter, Nancy Bridges and husband David of Comanche, Texas; son, David Roberts and wife Sherry of Texarkana, Arkansas; grandchildren Sarah McKee and husband Mike of Fort Worth, Rebecca Bridges of Abilene, Christy Abney of Abilene, and Cody Abney and wife Amanda of Austin; great-grandchildren, Logan McKee, Norah McKee, Cagan Abney, Piper Abney, and Kennedy Abney.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations in Wade’s honor be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, St., Abilene, TX 79605, 325-793-5450.
