W.G. “Bill” Potter, 84, died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at an Abilene medical center. The son of Annie (Simons) and Ewing Lee Potter, W.G. was born in Callahan County, Texas, and attended school in Cross Plains, Texas. He married Bonnie Hughes on August 24, 1946 in Cross Plains. He worked for Lario Oil & Gas Co. as a contract pumper, and was a member of Elmcrest Baptist Church. W.G. was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Potter in 1950; his parents; three brothers, Lavelle Potter, D.W. Potter and Lenorad Potter; two sisters, Geraldine Shommer and Lorene Papp; three grandchildren, Randy Lee Potter, Trey Bird and Joshua Brandon Bird; and great-grandson, Marcus Abell. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Potter of Abilene; son, Randy Potter and wife Betty of Snyder; three daughters, Donna Bird and husband Larry of Merkel, Barbara Stewart of Abilene, and Karen Owens and husband Mike of Wichita Falls; a brother, Curtis Potter and wife Pat of Abilene; nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 8, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Brian Potter, Jeff Potter, Joel Bird, Greg Abell, Mathew Potter and Stephen Potter.
