W. A. "Bill" Griffin, age 75, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2007 at a local hospital. A memorial service, with Father Fred Nawarskas officiating, will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Tuesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Bill was born December 22, 1931 to Irean and Bud Griffin in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was educated in the Oklahoma City School System and attended Pasadena City College in Pasadena, California. December 17, 1960, Bill married Sandy Van Almkerk.
In 1947, Bill joined the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. Following his military service, Bill returned to Oklahoma City and worked for the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company. In 1957, he went southern California to attend college. Soon thereafter, he joined the William Wallace Company in Belmont, California and lived in northern and southern California. In 1970, Bill was transferred to Winters, Texas where he became Comptroller for the William Wallace Company's Dry Manufacturing division. He remained with Dry's until he retired as company President in 1987. He and his wife, Sandy, moved to Abilene in 2002.
During his lifetime, Bill was involved with numerous community activities and was known as a very hard worker. Upon retirement, he gave freely of his time and labor to many individuals. Retirement also afforded Bill the opportunity to improve his so-so golf game and he became an avid golfer.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sandy, his uncle, Jack Price of Lawton, Oklahoma, his cousin, David Price Guthrie, Oklahoma, and his beloved dogs, Sara and Molly.
