Vivian Lane Schkade, 83, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at her home in Abilene, Texas. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Rd. Abilene, TX 79606. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the family residence on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 5:00- 7:00 PM. She was born November 16, 1927 in Snyder, Texas to Avis Sanders Lane and Dillard Lane. Vivian was a 1945 graduate of Snyder High School. After graduation she went on to work as a telephone operator. While working as an operator she met her husband Clarence Schkade at the Snyder Drug Store. After a year of dating they were married on July 3, 1948 in Abilene, Texas at Zion Lutheran Church. After marriage Vivian went on to become a full time mother and homemaker. She served as the president of her daughters PTA's and taught Sunday school classes. Vivian loved her family and especially children. She was an excellent cook and loved good food and socializing. She also enjoyed gardening, watching the Rangers play ball, and watching western movies. She enjoyed traveling and went on several "Oil and Gas" cruises in the 1980's as well as enjoying a cruise to the Caribbean. Traveling to Ruidoso, New Mexico was an annual trip that she looked forward to each year. But she was happiest when surrounded by her family and she had a smile that could light up a room. A long time Abilenian, Vivian was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 63 years, Clarence Schkade of Abilene; three daughters, Pam Schkade also of Abilene, Jan Jones and her husband Tony Jones of Weatherford, Mendie Schkade Bradshaw and her husband Greg Bradshaw of Abilene; grandchildren, Amber Sanders and husband Steven Sanders of Abilene, and Jourdan Bradshaw also of Abilene; great-grandsons Briley and Brady Sanders of Abilene, as well as numerous other family and friends. She will be loved and missed by all. Pallbearers will be James Bishop, Troy Coats, Dennis Schkade, Jerry Storey, Wayne Lanham, John McAden, Mark Hart, and Ricky Law. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Zion Lutheran Youth Fund, 2801 Antilley Rd. Abilene, TX 79606.
