Virginia Tatum, 89, of Abilene, affectionately known to her family and friends as "MeMe", peacefully passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on March 4, 2011 in Abilene, Texas at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral services, with Dr. Phil Christopher of First Baptist Church officiating, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Virginia was born in Hugo, Oklahoma to A.Q. Adams and Virginia Darr Adams on May 6, 1921. She later moved to Abilene where she met and married L.O. Tatum, the love of her life. Virginia worked as an office nurse for Drs. Virgil Pate and Paul Mani for many years. Serving her patients brought her much joy, and she was much loved in return. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Abilene.
MeMe's family celebrates her life, which she lived to the fullest. She loved with her whole heart, and everyone who knew her felt that. She was a much loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, L.O. Tatum, her parents, A.Q. and Virginia Adams, and her brother, A.Q. Adams, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Jim Tatum and wife Janice of Elm Valley; her grandchildren, Larry Tatum and wife Lynette of Abilene, and Lisa Lackey and husband Gary of Dallas; her great- grandchildren, Justin Tatum and wife Alicia of Plano, and John Austin Tatum of Abilene; her brother Perry Joe Adams of Mineola; and her sister Mary Mason of Moore, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605. The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to Dr. Victor Hirsch, Pat Egdorf, Hendrick Hospice and the entire nursing staff of Hendrick Medical Center.
