Virginia M. Sadler, 85, of Abilene died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at a local hospital. Graveside services, with David Black officiating, will be today, Saturday, February 15, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Texas. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
July 29, 1923, Virginia was born in Pottsville, Texas to Esteen and Mabel (Jones) Sadler. She was raised in Hamilton, Texas and graduated from Hamilton High School and Draughn's Business College in Ft. Worth. Virginia worked in Washington and Philadelphia for the Signal Corps during World War II. She later worked for the Veterans Administration in Waco. While living in Waco, Virginia attended Baylor University. After moving to Abilene she worked for the Social Security Administration and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University before becoming a tour guide with Lincoln Bus Lines of Hanover, Pennsylvania and returned to Big Pine Key, Florida. In 2003, Virginia returned to Abilene. She was part owner of Abilene's first privately owned landfill. Virginia was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Abilene.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert "Sonny" Sadler. Virginia is survived by one brother, George Sadler and his wife Beverly, of Lubbock; one sister, Peggy Knowles and her husband Roy, of Abilene and several nieces and nephews.
