Virginia S. Cockrell died on Friday, July 20, 2007 at Hendrick Healthcare Center after an extended illness.
Family graveside service, with Phil Ware officiating, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 24 at Colorado City Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Virginia was born November 7, 1923 in the Westover Community in Baylor County to Herschell E. and Mary Emma Cockrell. She graduated from Colorado City High School and spent her working career as teller for banks in Colorado City, Olney, Vernon, and Abilene. She retired from the First National Bank of Abilene in 1988. Virginia was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty Jean. She is survived by her son, Robert W. "Butch" Cockrell and wife Jo Monte; her granddaughters, Cara Davis and husband Garrett of Houston, Cathy Pettus and husband Keith of Chicago; great grandchildren, Garrett, Jr. and Maggie Davis of Houston; a sister, Dawn Shipley of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews.
The family visitation will be Monday, July 23, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
The family wishes to thank the staffs at Mesa Springs Healthcare Center and Hendrick Healthcare Center for their care and attention to Virginia.
