Virgil "Vernon" Wright, of Tuscola, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the age of 61. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Southwest Park Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in the Buffalo Gap Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 on Monday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Vernon was born April 23, 1946 the son of Virgil Lee Wright and Violet (Robertson) Wright in Ropesville, Texas. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Vernon married Malissa Lou Thigpen on October 27, 1978. For the past 11 years, he was employed by Western Marketing, Inc. in Tye, Texas. He was a life long air pilot and mechanic. Vernon was a member of the family at Southwest Park Baptist Church. He was a kind-hearted and loving husband, father, granddad, and friend. Vernon was a Godly man who cherished his soul-mate and wife of 28 years. His children and grandchildren were the delight of his life.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Violet Wright, two brothers, Raymond Wright and Walter Wright, and one brother-in-law, Mikel Davis. He is survived by his wife, Lissa Wright, of Tuscola; two sons, Vernon L. Wright and wife Holli, of Lubbock, and Greg L. Wright and his fianc?, Megan Burkett of Tioga; two daughters, Brenda Sallee and husband Troy, of Pensacola, Florida, and Amanda Gay and husband Kris, of Abilene; one brother, Steve Wright and wife Nancy, of Ropesville; four sisters, Emagene Davis, of Stephenville, Joice Davis, of Lubbock, Erma Wright, of Wolforth, and Joan Smith and husband Joe, of Levelland; one sister-in-law, Janice Wright, of Shallowater; four granddaughters, ten grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews.
