Viola Frances Harvey, 91, died Saturday, December 6, 2008 at a local hospital.
She was born Yolanda Epifania Mazza on January 6, 1917 in Long Branch, New Jersey. In 1943 she married John F. Harvey, who was at that time, an Army lieutenant stationed at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.
Mrs. Harvey was a homemaker and a long time volunteer at the Dyess Air Force Base legal office, library, and hospital and, beginning in 1985, as a tutor in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program in Adult Education. She was recognized as the outstanding volunteer ESL tutor for the 1998-1999 school year.
Mrs. Harvey was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Dr. John F. Harvey. She is survived by two sons, John F. Harvey III and Robert L. Harvey, both of Abilene; and a granddaughter, Melissa M. Harvey, of Rolla, Missouri. She was a Catholic.
Her sons will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Mrs. Harvey will be laid to rest with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
