Viola Mills Cargile, 92, of Abilene, Texas, peacefully passed away into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, April 8, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor David Cason will be officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Viola was born in Abilene, Texas on April 3, 1925 to Roy L. Mills and Freddie Stubblefield Mills. She graduated from Abilene High School and continued her education at Hardin-Simmons College where she was a member of the Cowgirl Band.
Viola was married to Martin Cargile on December 25, 1942; they were married 67 years.
Viola worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone, Stanolind Oil & Gas, Horton Real Estate and Nordan Oil & Gas. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading and needlework.
Viola is survived by daughter Cay (Steve) Collins, son Brad (Pam) Cargile, daughter-in-law Karen Cargile, grandchildren Kyle Collins, Mason Cargile, Tessa Cargile, Martin Peter Cargile, sister-in-law Merle Cargile, brother-in-law Al (Wanda) Cargile, several nieces and nephews as well as dear friend Jean Jordan and special caregiver Sylvia Emerson.
Viola is preceded in death by her husband Martin Cargile, son Martin L. Cargile, sister Juanita Williams, brother-in-law Jack Williams and brother-in-law Harold Cargile.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Meals on Wheels or Broadview Baptist Church Homebound Ministry. The family wishes to thank Don & Georgie Jacobson for their loving and devoted visits and Hendrick Hospice for their caring guidance.
