Vincent Coates

Vincent Wayne Coates, 59, of Abilene, went to be with his lord on April 17, 2024 in Abilene, TX. 

Vincent was born in Big Spring, TX to Carroll Coates Jr. and Marcia Coates on September 25, 1964. Vince was a lighthearted, fun, outgoing man, who loved to have a good time with friends and family. He loved cracking jokes and was definitely the life of the room any time he was around. He was raised in Big Spring and San Angelo and began in the car business at a young age, working with his father at Carroll Coates Auto Sales in San Angelo.  He married Carla Slaughter in Big Spring, TX in 2007 and together, they opened Vincent Motor Company in 2008, where they both strived to offer the best quality and service to customers in the used car industry. 

Vincent loved photography, movies, fishing, playing the guitar and watching the Dallas Cowboys.  Later in life, he enjoyed ranching at the Cornerstone Ranch, hunting with friends and family, and riding horses. Vincent had the most charismatic and infectious smile along with the best one-eyed laugh and corky smirk when he carried on conversation. He had a big heart, and he knew no stranger. Vincent was a loving uncle, stepdad, grandpa, and great uncle to 6 great nieces and nephews. 

Above all, Vincent loved God, living every day with a passion and devotion to our Lord and Savior.

Vincent was preceded in death by his grandparents Tomi Lee Ford, and Carroll F. Coates Sr., as well as his father Carroll Ford Coates Jr.

Vincent is survived by his mother Marcia Coates, brother Steven Coates and wife of 17 years Carla Coates. Survivors also include nieces and nephew, Brittni Williams, Austin Garrett Coates and Haley Coates along with their spouses. Vincent has 6 great nieces and nephews as well as a Bonus Daughter Casey Rankin, and bonus grandchildren Blaine Stringer, Kayla Copley, Ty Wester, and numerous cousins who all love and miss him dearly. 

Pallbearers include Garrett Coates, John Williams, Jimmy Dowdle, Leland Cahill, Mike Cahill, Buck Jackman, A.C. Neighbors, and Brad Madry.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Floral arrangements and plants may be sent to The Hamil Family Funeral Home, or memorial donations may be made to the donor’s favorite charity in honor of Vincent.
