Vera N. Harless passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 23, 1927 in Scurry County, Texas.
Family visitation will be Tuesday, April 22, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 23, at 10:00 a.m. in Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder, TX followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 p.m. at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 S. Pioneer Drive in Abilene. The services will be officiated by Jeff Reid of Abilene and Ben Reid of Snyder.
Vera married Don Harless on November 4, 1949 in Snyder, TX. Vera and Don celebrated a wonderful life of almost 64 years together. She was truly blessed with good family and many friends.
She worked for State Farm agent McClosky in Snyder until Don was transferred to Graham, TX in 1980. Vera worked for the City of Graham for three years and then transferred to Abilene in 1984. She and her husband made their home in Abilene for thirty-four years, moving back “home” to Snyder in February 2014.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Cora Hart; seven sisters, Bird, Hattie, Johnnie, Lena, Jean, Bennie and Era; and four brothers, Boy, Rufus, J.D. and W.C.
Survivors include her husband Don of the home; two sons and spouses, Gary Harless and Fran of Abilene and Mark Harless and Sheila of Ira, TX; six grandchildren, Kara and Drew Thompson of Tomball, Kyle Harless of Abilene, Kameron and Angela Harless of Katy, Kolter Harless of Austin, Amy and Kyle Vickers of Ira, and Kristen and Tony Flanagan of Ira; eight great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Parker and Payton Thompson of Tomball, Van Clare of Abilene, Konner Vickers of Ira, Madisyn, Ally and Taylor Flanagan of Ira; many nephews and nieces; and special friend Pat Ball of Abilene.
