Venita Ann Samford

1935 — April 7, 2017

Venita Ann Quattlebaum-Samford, 81, received the ultimate healing as she went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, forever on April 7, 2017. She was the daughter of George Leonard and Sylvia Estel Quattlebaum of Trent, Texas. She had one older brother Lyndel Quattlebaum also of Trent. Venita was born and raised in Trent, Texas where she attended school at Trent ISD grades 1-12. After graduating high school, she worked at the Timex watch factory in Abilene before becoming a dental assistant for Henry McGowen DDS. Venita met the love of her life, Buddy Neil Samford, and they were married on December 7, 1956. They lived in Abilene and then later bought farm land west of Abilene where they raised horses and built their home. Venita was a wife and cherished mother to three children – Monty, Mark and Tonja. She was a friend to all who crossed paths with her. She was a woman of faith and enjoyed her friends from View Baptist Church where she was a long-time member. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and flourish. She loved to read and was also a huge sports fan, and loved watching college basketball as well as game shows such as Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Venita is survived by her oldest son Monty Samford and wife Janet of Clyde, son Mark Samford and wife Tammy of Clyde and daughter Tonja Samford of Abilene, grandchildren Amber Davis and husband Lane of Clyde; Hunter Samford of Abilene; Riley Samford and wife Meagan of Lubbock; Rex Samford of Clyde; Samantha, Alyssa and Weldon Samford of Clyde; and great-grandchildren Adison and Jaxon Davis of Clyde; and Baylor Matthews of Lubbock, sister-in-law Barbara Bickley and husband Jim Bickley of Giddings Texas; sister-in-law Ouida Samford of Hondo, Texas; sister-in-law Vickey Quattlebaum of Trent; and several nieces and nephews. Venita deeply loved her family and truly missed the love of her life, husband Buddy since his passing in February 2014. They were married for 58 years. Venita was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her husband.
