Vedous Victoria (Vicki) Striplin
Vedous (Vicki) Striplin, age 93, of Abilene, went to be with the Lord peacefully Tuesday, August 20th at Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 A.M., Friday, August 23rd at the church directly preceding the funeral service.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday August 23rd at Oldham Lane Church of Christ with Chris McCurley officiating. Burial will take place in Medford, Oregon. Arrangements are by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Vedous was born in Pickens, Oklahoma to Richard Wallace Shields and Myrtle Ola Reid on April 21, 1920. She was the second of five children. She married Loyd Herbert Striplin on September 28, 1936 in Clebit, Oklahoma. Loyd's profession of logging led their family to Oregon. Vicki devoted her time and energy raising her children and serving her family. As her children became teenagers, Vedous joined the work force in Central Point, Oregon working at Midway Meat Packing Company until her retirement in 1976. After Loyd's death, Vedous moved to Texas to be near her daughter. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ and became very active in African mission work. Through World Bible School "momma Vicki" as she was lovingly called by her African students wrote letters teaching and encouraging many World Bible School students in Ghana and Kenya. She spent countless hours serving in her own community at the Christian Service Center. Vedous Striplin left a legacy of love and service to her Lord for her family, community and all who knew her.
Vedous Striplin was preceded in death by her husband Loyd Hebert Striplin, her parents Richard Wallace Shields and Myrtle Ola Shields, her sister Bertha Deana Bishop, her brothers Marvin Wallace Shields and James Alvie Shields, her son-in-law Travis Cranfill and grandson Paul Striplin.
Vedous Striplin is survived by her three sons and their spouses Kenny and Pat Striplin of Lancaster, California, Therman and Karen Striplin of Portland, Oregon, Bob and Lori Striplin of Medford, Oregon and her daughter Patsy Cranfill of Abilene, Texas, her sister Lucy Vanderpool of Killeen, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
