U.V. was born in Comanche County on September 9th, 1926 to Admour Dewey and Lura Mae (Wilson) Reese. He grew up in the Van Dyke community in Comanche County where he attended school. He completed his education at Comanche High School in 1943. He fondly spoke of his early days growing up in the Van Dyke community where he and his brothers helped his parents on the family farm growing cotton, peanuts, watermelons, cantaloupes and tomatoes as well as raising turkeys, hogs, and cattle. He and his brothers enjoyed playing softball where he was a skilled hind catcher, playing basketball, hunting and skinning possums to earn Christmas money and many other activities too many to mention.
After completing his education, U.V. went into business with his brother, Lee, and good friend, Joe Fritts, opening up Reese & Fritts Grocery as well as a taxi service in Comanche. Later he entered the farming business with his childhood friend, Brooks Kerley, where they combined peanuts in the Comanche area.
He married Neta Jean Carmack on July 23rd, 1950 in Comanche, Texas. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Recently when U.V. was asked the secret of being married sixty six years, his answer was, "She did what she wanted to do….I did what I wanted to do. Neither one of us was the boss". However, those that knew U.V. and Neta always saw them working side by side in everything that they did. They enjoyed working on the family farm, growing vegetables to sell at the local Farmer's Market, attending and supporting their children throughout the years in various activities such as baseball, softball, band, etc. and continuing to be greatly involved with his grandchildren who he loved so deeply.
In 1953 he joined the U.S. Army serving his country during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Munich, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
U.V. and Neta moved to Abilene, Texas in 1955 where he went to work for Halliburton Oil Services driving a cement truck and working his way into management as the Cement Bulk Plant supervisor. Affectionately known as "Pee Wee" to his employees and co-workers, he was known not only at the Abilene Halliburton Camp but the surrounding camps as well. Everyone knew the name of Pee Wee and when his name was mentioned, they would give a smile and talk about how hard of a worker he was and was well respected. He retired from Halliburton after 34 years of service.
U.V. was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas by a young college minister by the name of Paige Patterson, who went on to be the president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. While Dr. Patterson was at a Second Baptist Anniversary celebration a few years ago, he still remembered U.V. after all that time and even spoke about leading him to the Lord.
U.V. was preceded in death by his parents, Admour Dewey and Lura Mae Reese as well as numerous family members.
U.V. is survived by his loving wife Neta, his son, Randall (Randy) Lynn Reese and wife Pop of Saudi Arabia, his daughter Tina Reese Jones and husband Jimmie of Abilene. Grandchildren Laurie, Windy and Judy Reese and Cambrey Jones, his brothers, Lee Reese of Comanche, Texas and Odell Reese and wife Myrlene of Comanche, Texas.
